NASA Gymnastics strives to provide high quality coaches, with a history of successful gymnastics experience for our students to learn from. The coaching staff is led by three experts in the field of Artistic Gymnastics.
John D. Smith-Director of Programs, Hall of Fame Gymnastics Coach, Trained in Track and Field, Football, Basketball, Diving,: Began coaching in 1972 and opened NASA Gymnastics in 1981. Coach Smith coordinates all programs at NASA Gymnastics and serves as the head coach for the gymnastics team. He has coached AAU basketball and Curtis Junior High Basketball, and conducts clinics for athletes and coaches specializing in speed and jump training. Coaching wide receivers with University Place Viking Football and providing technical training for spring board diving and pole vault have been helped him to assist athletes in many sports. Coach Smith was inducted into the USA Gymnastics Washington State Hall of Fame in 2006 and continues to train athletes in numerous sports. Gymnasts trained by him have earned International Medals in Japan, England, Mexico and Canada and been involved with training in Moscow, USSR- St Petersburg, Russia- Beijing, China- Nishinomiya/ Osaka, Japan, Cork, Ireland. Athletes he has worked with in Track, Basketball, Spring Board Diving and Football have won State and League championships and many have earned college scholarships in their sports.
Linda Naccarato Smith- Choreographer, Balance Beam Expert, Recreational Program Coordinator, TOP's & Team Coach: Since 1983
Coach Linda has trained more then 100 State Champions on the Balance Beam and Floor Exercise. Her Choreography skills and coaching expertise have led her gymnasts to National Championship titles, International Medals and College Scholarships. Coach Linda is an expert in recreational coaching and imparts her knowledge to the coaches at NASA Gymnastics and to the students taking gymnastics classes. Her ability to train gymnasts from age 2 through college is remarkable. She is the mother of two boys who started in gymnastics and went on to successful academic and athletic careers in track and basketball. Son Jeremy is 21 and son Drew is 16.
Belinda "Billi" Mutton- Pre-School Expert, Recreational Class Expert, TOP's Coach: Since 1998
Coach Billi is beloved by her pre-school students, parents and fellow coaches. She is a former competitive gymnast from Spokane, who trained in several programs before finding a "gym home" at NASA Gymnastics. "Ms. Billi" specializes in pre-school and recreational gymnastics and does a wonderful job in developing NASA's TOP's team program.
Monica McNeil- Team, TOP's and Recreational Coach: Since 2004
Coach Monica provides enthusiasm and sound fundamentals to NASA's recreational, Team and TOP's programs. She is a former state All Around Champion who trained with Coach John and Coach Linda in the successful decade of the 90's. Her attention to detail, ability to communicate in an uplifting manner and joy in training athletes, add to the fun of learning gymnastics at every level. She is currently serving as a guest coach as while finishing her Bachelor's Degree.
Morgan Smith- TOP's Team Coach and Recreational Coach: Since 2007
Coach Morgan works with NASA's Talent Opportunity Program and upper level recreational program. Coach Morgan is a former competitive gymnast who provides sound fundamental, strength and flexibility training to the gymnasts she trains. In May of 2008, coach Morgan gave birth to a son and will continue coaching shortly.
Bailey Johnson- Team Coach, TOP's Coach and Rec Coach: Since 2007
Coach Bailey brings an extensive resume of NASA Gymnastics training which led her to numerous championship titles as an athlete. Coach Bailey competed in the 2004 Friendship Cup in London, England and the 2004 National Training Camp in Cork, Ireland. Since she began coaching at NASA, Coach Bailey has developed numerous gymnasts from the level 1 to level 4 categories and is currently leading the NASA level 4 team training.
Mackenzie McIntyre: Optional Team and TOP's Team Coach: Since June 2008
Coach Mackenzie graduated from W.S.U in May of 2008 with a degree in Sociology and Psychology and returns to NASA as a coach. As an athlete Mackenzie was the finest bar swinger in NASA history. Her ability to perform at one of the highest levels in the country led her to numerous invitational championships and the ability to compete at the National Championship. NASA is delighted to have Coach Mac back home in the NASA Family.
